BMSC as an Organization
The Burlington Masters Swim Club is an organization under the laws of the
province of Ontario. It is a non-profit organization for the promotion of
fun, fitness and friendship for Masters swimming.
BMSC and
Masters
Swimming Ontario (MSO)
BMSC is a registered MSO club. All BMSC members are individually registered
with MSO. You will receive an MSO number and a card which are required for
competition in all swim meets and as proof of your registration if you wish
to swim as a visitor in other clubs anywhere in Ontario.
Swim Meets
Swim meet information is posted on the bulletin board at Centennial Pool
as well as our website. Speak with Dave Judd (coach) or any executive member
if you would like to know more about competing. Competing at swim meets is
one way you can improve your swimming and meet new friends. Contact John
Strang (BMSCMeet@gmail.com) to
enter meets.
Our Annual
Meet
BMSC hosts one meet throughout the year. The meet takes place in February.
All members are expected to work at the meet. Jobs consist of timing,
marshalling and helping with food set up. All members are also expected to
bring food to the meet to provide a lunch after the meet and snacks during
the meet.
Social Events
BMSC is known for having wonderful social events. This year we are having a
Fall get-together to welcome everyone back and especially new members. All
members should bring their families and friends to enjoy an afternoon
barbeque and fun at the park. BMSC provides the hotdogs, hamburgers and pop.
We ask that members bring either a salad, chips, veggies and dip or
desserts. There will be organized games for the children and adults, please
feel free to bring your own equipment also.
During the year there are also organized social events such as a Christmas
Party, Provincial party and an end of year party. As well, every Thursday
night we end up at the pub after practice.
Membership
In the past, the club has been rather small ranging from 50-60 swimmers. During
the past five years, the club's membership has increased dramatically and
has grown to between 80 and 90 members per year. Therefore, since the club
has grown so much we decided to keep growing to accommodate many swimmers
who have a love for swimming. The swim season starts after Labor Day weekend
in September and runs the full year until the end of May. We are one club
but run two scheduled times most nights for two groups to swim. This allows
more people to swim but less swimmers in your lane with two groups.
